Town Utilities

Supporting Parachute’s Water and Wastewater Systems

The Town of Parachute provides safe, high-quality water and wastewater services to more than 440 customers, including residents and businesses across town. To provide these services, the Town operates and maintains complex water and sewer systems around the clock. However, ensuring that reliability isn’t easy. It requires constant maintenance, expert management, and regular upgrades.

When you pay your utility bill, you're not just covering the cost of the water you use or send down the drain. You're also investing in the systems that provide reliable, safe service to our community 24/7. The rates you pay are calculated to cover the costs of providing service. This includes purchasing water as needed, pumping water from the water supply plant, treating it, and delivering it to homes and businesses, then managing what goes down the drain.

Your water and wastewater rates contribute to:

The Water System

The Sewer System

Irrigation Services

Your water rates help pay for all the parts of the water system that bring clean water to your tap. This includes operating and maintaining over 11 miles of pipes and a water supply plant that treats and stores your water before it’s delivered safely to you.

Your wastewater rates ensure our sewer system responsibly manages and transports the wastewater that goes down drains across Parachute until it reaches the wastewater treatment facility and is processed.

The Town manages irrigation services in Parachute, providing customers with the water they need for outdoor irrigation in the summer months and promoting a sustainable water supply.

*Effective June 1, 2025

The Town is updating the water and wastewater rates to keep up with the rising costs of providing reliable service, to maintain critical infrastructure, and to allocate costs fairly. The Town’s water and wastewater rate adjustments are based on a comprehensive rate study conducted by an independent consultant. This study took a deep dive into our future costs for providing services, using detailed technical analyses, projections of revenues and expenses, and a careful look at the utilities’ current and future financial health. The study recommended that we adjust what and how we charge to ensure fair, sustainable rate structures.

Our Priorities

Conducting regular rate studies is an industry best practice that utilities across the nation follow to ensure their water and wastewater rates are fair and can support reliable service. While conducting our most recent rate study, we kept the following goals in mind:

Promote Fairness:

Changes to our rate structures will ensure each customer pays their fair share for the demand they place on the system by making water and wastewater rates proportionate to the service costs.

Achieve Financial Sufficiency:

We aim to ensure the utilities remain financially stable so the Town can continue providing reliable service for generations to come.
