Pursuant to the Parachute Home Rule Charter, Town elections are governed by the Colorado Municipal Election Code, with exceptions provided by the Town Charter or ordinance. To vote, electors must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens, registered with the Town or Garfield County Clerk, not in prison, and residents of Colorado and the Town for at least 30 days before the election. Regular elections are held on the first Tuesday of April in even-numbered years, while special elections require a resolution at least 60 days in advance. Municipal elections are non-partisan, and candidates cannot run under a party label. The Town elects six Councilmembers and one Mayor from at-large nominations, with petitions requiring at least 20 signatures from registered Town electors. Electors can sign multiple nominating petitions regardless of the number of offices to be filled. The Town consists of one voting precinct, but the Town Council can establish more precincts by ordinance at least 30 days before an election. Election regulations are governed by the Colorado Municipal Election Code unless otherwise provided by the Town Charter or ordinance.

Members of the Town Council, including the Mayor, can be recalled according to specific provisions:
No recall petition is accepted until the official has held office for at least six months.
Recall petitions must be signed by at least 25% of the voters from the last election for that office.
Recall procedures follow Article XXI of the Colorado Constitution, with additional procedures established by the Town Council if needed.

The Town Clerk oversees all election activities and resolves any procedural uncertainties.
