Parachute, Colo. – December 3, 2024 – The Town of Parachute is now accepting applications for a vacant seat on Town Council. Qualified candidates who are interested in filling the position should submit a cover letter to Town Clerk Lucy Spalenka at lspalenka@parachute.gov no later than Monday, January 6, 2025 at 12 noon MST.
Submitted letters will be provided to the Town Council for review at their meeting on January 16, 2025, and should speak to the candidate's qualifications, previous experience, and why they want to serve on the Board. If multiple applications from qualified candidates are received, interviews will be scheduled at a public meeting with the Town Council.
Per the Town Charter, the Mayor and Town Council will select and appoint the final candidate to fill the remainder of the vacant term, which expires April 2026.
To be qualified, candidates must reside within Town limits for at least the past 12 months and be registered to vote.
The vacancy was created by outgoing Councilmember Rory Birdsey, who has tendered his resignation effective at the end of the year. He has accepted employment elsewhere and is no longer eligible to serve on Town Council as a non-resident of the Town. He was first appointed to the seat in 2020, and then elected to continue serving in the role for a second term in 2022. We thank Councilmember Birdsey for his contributions and leadership and wish him and his family the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Any questions should be directed to Town Clerk Lucy Spalenka.
