We have heard the concerns that you all have about the main bridge in town so we reached out to CDOT to get some additional information. The last inspection was done in March, 2024. However, due to the amount of bridges that they oversee (nearly 3,500), the report hasn't been filed yet. We will share that report with you all once it is published. The most recent inspection filed was from 4/6/22. This inspection stated that the bridge was considered in "Fair" condition which is middle of the road for bridge ratings. It means the 2022 inspection saw some potholes, chipping, and other minor deficiencies but overall the bridge was rated as a functional asset. No, the smoke you were seeing was not just residual from the fireworks. A 1/4-1/2 acre fire started as the result of the fireworks display. Thankfully, officers and firefighters were able to knock it down fairly quickly. The Parachute-Battlement Mesa Parks and Recreation District (PBMPRD) has done an incredible job since 2016 stabilizing and maintaining all of its assets. Now, they are looking to the future to maximize the use and function of existing facilities to better serve the growing and changing community. To date, the PBMPRD team has engaged the public and stakeholders through focus groups, pop-up events, and an online survey in addition to conducting analysis work of the facilities, properties, operations, and recreational programming. The Town of Parachute is requesting voters to submit pro and con statements regarding Ballot Issue 2B for the November 5, 2024, election. This ballot measure proposes a 0.5% increase in the Town’s sales tax to support the Streets & Alley Fund and capital improvement projects. The proposed tax would exclude essential items like groceries, fuel, residential utilities, services, most medications, and long-term real estate leases.
